The Taiping Rebellion started in 1850 and went until 1864. Hong Xiuquan had spirit awakenings, which caused him to believe he was a god. For religious reasons, Hong gained many followers who rebelled against the Asian Government/Culture. This lead to 20 million deaths, one of the largest slaughters in history. During this time many Chinese immigrated over to America.
